Who is Salary suitable for?

Salary is suitable for anyone who wants to protect themselves against loss of earnings due to illness because they have not taken out group daily benefits insurance through their employer. And for all self-employed persons, housewives and househusbands.

Why daily benefits insurance makes sense

As troublesome as the flu may be, it is usually cured after a week. That’s not the case with serious illness or accidents. It becomes doubly stressful when money worries are added to the mix because you can’t work for a longer period of time. Salary daily benefits insurance protects you against this risk. It steps in, for example, when your employer’s statutory obligation to continue paying your salary ends or in the event of loss of earnings for freelancers.

  • Employees can also use this insurance to close gaps

If you are employed, you are generally covered by your employer’s group daily benefits insurance or your employer’s mandatory accident insurance. In other words, you continue to receive your salary. The continuation of salary payments is regulated by law.

    Ask your employer

Ask your employer about your insurance cover. Without supplementary daily benefits insurance (via your employer), the statutory continuation of salary payments may be incomplete.

  • More financial security for freelancers

Daily benefits insurance for sickness and daily benefits insurance for accident are vitally important for the self-employed and freelancers. Without this insurance, you earn nothing from the first day of absence from work.

Full cover even with a pre-existing condition

With the individual premium supplement, Sanitas is the first health insurer in Switzerland to offer many people with pre-existing health conditions or consequences of accidents the option to take out supplementary insurance with full cover.

Frequently asked questions

  • What exactly is a waiting period and how does it influence the premium?

The waiting period defines how long you have to wait after your illness or accident until you receive the first daily benefits. You can choose from a waiting period of 2, 14, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 240, 270, 300 or 360 days. Generally, the longer the waiting period, the lower the premium.

  • How high are the daily benefits when included as a voluntary benefit under basic insurance?

Under basic insurance you can include daily benefits as a voluntary benefit: for illness, accident or pregnancy. This inclusion is known as voluntary daily benefits insurance pursuant to HIA.

    Key benefits:

    • Benefits for up to 720 days within a period of 900 days
    • From an incapacity to work of 50% and above
    • In the case of pregnancy-related complications: Daily benefits for 16 weeks. Important: For maternity benefits, daily benefits insurance pursuant to HIA must be taken out at least 270 days before the birth.

Under basic insurance you can claim maximum daily benefits of CHF 10 per day. Higher amounts are automatically included in the daily benefits insurance pursuant to VVG/IPA. Most people take out voluntary daily benefits insurance pursuant to VVG/IPA – such as our Salary insurance plan.

  • How much are the daily benefits under Salary supplementary insurance?
