Data privacy policy, legal information and data security

This website uses cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored permanently or temporarily on your device when you visit this website. Data privacy policy, legal information and data security

This data privacy policy explains how Sanitas collects, uses, shares and discloses (hereinafter summarised under the term “processes”) the personal data of visitors to this website (hereinafter “users”) and how this is done. The data privacy policy also explains how Sanitas ensures the security of the personal data processed and contains further legal information.

The user agrees that Sanitas may process personal data in accordance with the data privacy policy. This policy does not affect statutory or contractual confidentiality obligations to which Sanitas is subject with regard to the user’s personal data. By using or retrieving information or documents from Sanitas’ web pages, users explicitly agree to these terms of use.

Sanitas attaches great importance to data privacy and data security. Customer data is treated in absolute confidence, and is processed in accordance with the applicable data privacy rules.

Data capture and use when visiting Sanitas web pages

Sanitas web pages may be visited without providing any personal data. However, Sanitas does, for example, use web analytics services to analyse use of the sanitas.com website. Cookies (text files) stored on the internet user’s computer are used for this purpose. These enable analysis of the use of the Sanitas website and iFrames of third-party providers (e.g. appointment scheduling widget from Calenso). Sanitas uses this internal web analysis service to evaluate individual website usage. This data is then used to compile reports on website activities and deliver other services relating to website and internet usage, e.g. for customised marketing (for example, retargeting). The user can control cookies using the browser settings. In the privacy preference centre, you can adjust your consent to the use of cookies on our website to your needs at any time. You also have the option to make appropriate settings in the browser. If the user rejects, blocks or disables cookies, this may limit the availability of services offered via the website and parts of the web pages may no longer function properly.

Sanitas collects and saves session and interaction data of website users and from online surveys. This information is used to improve the content and user friendliness of the web pages. Cookies may also be used for this purpose.

Crashlytics

Crashlytics is owned by Google and is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. One of the company’s areas of expertise is the development and distribution of software analysis tools for crash reporting with reports. These tools are used in the Sanitas apps.

Social media buttons

The Sanitas web pages include functions (plug-ins) provided by third-party providers or social media platforms (Facebook, X, Google+, etc.) . These plug-ins enable users to share content in the above social networks. When the user activates the buttons, the plug-ins automatically transmit data, including personal data, to the relevant third-party provider. If the user is logged in to the network of the respective third-party provider at the same time as visiting the website, the provider can assign the visit to the user’s network account. Sanitas has no influence on this process. Users can prevent this processing by logging out of the third-party provider before accessing the Sanitas website. The data privacy notices of the applicable social networks define the purpose and scope of the data collection process and how they further process and use personal data. The data privacy notices also provide users with information on their rights and setting options with regard to the protection of privacy.

Links

Sanitas web pages provide links to the websites of other companies. Sanitas offers no guarantee for the information, products, services or other content contained in these websites. Sanitas does not check the content of these websites. Users using links from Sanitas’s web pages to other website do so entirely at their own risk.

Newsletter

If you provide us with information to receive the newsletter, you agree that your email address may be used to send the newsletter. This does not imply any further consent to the use of your email address.

The personal data you provide when registering for the newsletter will be stored. Sanitas may store this data itself or commission third parties to do so. If the data is stored by companies commissioned by Sanitas, they are subject to legal and contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations. Access to data stored by third parties on behalf of Sanitas is only granted to employees who are entrusted with the maintenance, monitoring and administration of the system.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter or further information by email at any time. The data stored for the subscription to the newsletter will be deleted on cancellation of the newsletter.

You will not receive any advertising or other offers from Sanitas or third parties. If you would like to receive emails with marketing content or surveys by email, you can give us separate consent. Your email address will only be used to send our own information. We do not pass the address on to third parties for this purpose. The click behaviour with regard to hyperlinks in emails and websites is recorded anonymously; no personal user profiles can be created.

Telephony

From 15 May 2024, Sanitas will be using a digital telephone assistant for customer service calls for training purposes and to improve our services.

Live chat

The live chat is recorded in a log file and saved on the Sanitas server located in Switzerland. You decide during a live chat if and, if so which, personal data you want to disclose. Depending on your question, Sanitas staff may need personal details to be able to advise you. Sanitas uses the additional saved data in the log file (URL, IP address, page file name, date and time, web browser type and operating system, shopping cart data) – alongside the recorded conversation – to perform anonymous, statistical evaluations and for internal training of Sanitas staff.

Online appointment service

The online appointment service allows interested parties to book a consultation with a Sanitas insurance advisor. The booking and consultation are free of charge and the appointment can be changed or cancelled at any time. By using the “Online appointment” service, you agree to the processing of your personal and company data for a specific purpose. The service includes only the booking of a binding appointment with employees chosen by us or you. For technical reasons, the data required to book an appointment will be passed on to Calenso and deleted within three months of the consultation and/or cancellation of the appointment. Any data required for the consultation will not be passed on to third parties and can only be viewed by Sanitas employees. Personal data is only processed by your advisor in direct connection with the conclusion and processing of a contract. If particularly sensitive personal data as set out in the data protection legislation is viewed or processed in connection with your consultation, Sanitas Management AG takes all precautions necessary to comply with the data protection regulations and only processes data in line with the legal requirements. Data is treated in the strictest confidence. If you request a quote from one of our partner companies during the consultation, these insurance companies will receive any data required to prepare the quote. The partner companies are: Die Mobiliar, Zurich, Helvetia, Allianz and PostFinance. If an insurance contract is concluded on the basis of the quote, further data processing is governed by the provisions of the respective insurer. The appointment can be cancelled at any time and no obligations arise from attending the consultation.

Data storage

  • Sanitas stores the disclosed data for the purpose of contacting you if: You have concluded an insurance policy
  • You have not responded or have missed an appointment
  • You have requested a later consultation time
  • You have requested contact to discuss a life event planned for the near future (planning a family, world trip, change of residence, job change, etc.)

The online appointment service is offered in cooperation with Calenso. The user’s health and insurance data are not passed on to Calenso.

Co-browsing

Sanitas co-browsing takes place while you’re communicating with Sanitas staff via the live chat or support hotline. It enables the Sanitas support team to view the content of the browser you currently have open. They do not have access to your device, any personal details on your device or the device camera. The browser content visible to Sanitas support staff during an active co-browsing session is highlighted by a green frame. This way, you can always see which browser content on your computer is visible to Sanitas support staff. The application process is blocked for Sanitas support staff; in other words you are the only person who can complete and send the application form. A co-browsing session can be closed at any time by you or the Sanitas support staff by clicking on the “Exit” button. The browser content visible to the Sanitas support staff is not saved.

  • Receive a copy of the personal data;

Inquiries regarding the processing of personal data and the revocation of consent should be addressed to the Sanitas data privacy officer.

Normal emails

Normal emails sent to Sanitas are not encrypted.

Sanitas expressly draws attention to the fact that using normal emails to send unencrypted data is neither secure nor a suitable way of sending personal or other confidential data.

If visitors send personal information by email without appropriate protection, they should be aware that unauthorised third parties could access this information and thus gather, use or even falsify data without their consent. Further, under certain circumstances personal data sent by email may be transmitted via a provider abroad, even though the sender and receiver are located in Switzerland. You should therefore take account of the fact that your personal data could also be transferred to a country with less stringent data protection standards than Switzerland.

If, despite this, someone contacts Sanitas or makes enquiries by unencrypted email, Sanitas will assume that the customer explicitly desires this form of communication. By contacting Sanitas or making enquiries by unencrypted email, customers consent to Sanitas also replying or providing the information requested by unencrypted email.

Video call consultation

The phone call or video conference takes place using Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is an independent service provider and has no connection with Sanitas. Sanitas has no influence on the data processing by Microsoft Teams and rejects any guarantee or liability in connection with this phone call or video conference and Microsoft Teams. By voluntarily using Microsoft Teams for the chosen form of consultation, you acknowledge or, where necessary, agree to this information and the data collection in Microsoft Teams. In particular, you acknowledge that Microsoft Teams may send your data to other service providers – including across borders – and process it for various purposes, including its own. For this reason, this phone call or video conference and all related information and data are not protected by the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (DSG). You decide on the use of the device camera and audio track or sound. The browser content that is visible to the insurance advisor via the screen sharing function during the video consultation is highlighted with a green frame. This way, you can see at all times what content the Sanitas insurance advisor and you are both currently viewing and editing. You or the Sanitas insurance advisor can stop the video consultation at any time by pressing the “Leave” button. The shared browser content visible to the insurance advisor is not saved. The insurance advisor will create the requested quote(s) once the jointly completed advice record has been approved by the interested party.
