Fitness centre membership

Basic insurance does not cover any costs. This is where supplementary insurance comes in: Vital Premium contributes up to CHF 400.


Yoga, Pilates etc.

The Vital Premium supplementary insurance plan contributes up to CHF 400, provided the course provider is certified. 


Massages

Basic insurance does not cover any costs for massages. However, supplementary insurance provides cover: Vital Premium contributes up to CHF 750 per year.

Cost share for fitness centre memberships, yoga etc.

Basic insurance does not cover any costs for these services – that applies to all health insurance companies. This is where supplementary insurance comes in.

  • What costs are covered under basic insurance?

    Basic insurance does not cover any costs for fitness centre memberships or group courses.

  • What costs are covered under supplementary insurance?

    We promote movement. Most of our supplementary insurance plans cover a share of the costs of fitness centre memberships or group courses.

    • Vital Basic: no contribution
    • Vital Smart: 50% of costs, max. CHF 200 or 300 (depending on cost coverage chosen) per calendar year   
    • Vital Premium: 80% of costs, max. CHF 400 per calendar year.
    • Jump, Classic, Family*: 50% of costs, max. CHF 200 per calendar year

    * The Jump, Classic and Family supplementary insurance plans can no longer be taken out. Existing customers continue to enjoy the usual benefits.

    Conditions for group courses such as CrossFit, (power) yoga, EMS or Pilates


    • Group courses must be held by a certified provider. We recognise the following certificates/providers: Qualitop, QualiCert, Fitnessguide and Rheumaliga.
    • The Vital supplementary insurance plan covers a share of the costs for courses provided by therapists registered with ASCA, EMR or NVS (refer to list).

    Conditions for fitness centre memberships


    • The fitness centre must be certified by Qualitop, QualiCert or Fitnessguide. 
    • The membership must be valid for a minimum of 3 months (Vital Smart and Premium) or 6 months (Jump, Classic, Family) or be a 10-time subscription for equipment-based strength and endurance training (Vital Smart and Premium).

Cost share for massages

Basic insurance does not cover any costs – that applies to all health insurance companies. Supplementary insurance covers a share of the costs in the event of illness.

  • What costs are covered under supplementary insurance?

    Our supplementary insurance plans cover a share of the costs for massages in the event of illness.

    • Vital Basic: no contribution
    • Vital Smart: 80% of costs, max. CHF 250 or 500 (depending on cost coverage chosen) per calendar year
    • Vital Premium: 80% of costs, max. CHF 750 per calendar year
    • Jump*: 80% of costs, max. CHF 1,500
    • Classic*: 80% of costs, max. CHF 5,000
    • Family*: 80% of costs, maximum amount as per benefit account

    * The Jump, Classic and Family supplementary insurance plans can no longer be taken out. Existing customers continue to enjoy the usual benefits.

     

    The amounts for Jump, Classic and Family do not apply exclusively to massages, but to all other therapy methods (see list of therapy methods).

    Conditions


    Our supplementary insurance plans only contribute to the costs of massages when the condition of clinical significance is met and the therapist is recognised by Sanitas. The following types of massage are covered (subject to change):

    • Therapeutic massage/massage practices and soft tissue massage, provided they are performed by a therapist recognised for this method, a medical masseur, a doctor or a natural health practitioner 
    • Medical massage, manual lymphatic drainage and classic massage, provided they are performed by an accredited therapist or a medical masseur 
    • Esalen massage, foam roller therapy, Lomilomi therapy (only Vital), muscle reflexology massage, anti-stress foot massage (only Vital), rebalancing, muscle reflexology massage/reflexology, rhythmical massage, rolfing/structural integration, Thai massage
  • Does Sanitas cover the cost of massages in the case of back pain or pregnancy?

    Sanitas contributes to the costs of massages if the condition of clinical significance is met. The massage technique must be included in the insured benefits.
