Individual premium supplement
With the individual premium supplement, Sanitas is the first health insurer in Switzerland to offer many of its customers the option to take out supplementary insurance without a restriction.
What is an individual premium supplement?
Many customers with existing health conditions will be able to take out supplementary insurance without restrictions thanks to an individual premium supplement. They will pay a monthly supplement on their premium, but this means that they will enjoy all the benefits offered by the plan.
Individual premium supplements: simply explained
What does a health check involve?
All insurance companies want to know what risk they are taking on when they accept an insurance application. So, when you apply to take out supplementary insurance, the health insurer asks questions about your state of health. These health questions relate to illnesses and treatments you have had in the last five years. You have to answer these questions truthfully.
What is a pre-existing condition?
Pre-existing conditions include symptoms, illnesses and consequences of accidents that existed before you submitted the application or that still exist. For example, asthma, anxiety or depression.
What is a restriction?
A restriction means that the supplementary insurance doesn’t cover certain costs or only covers part of the costs.
Why are applications rejected?
Sometimes health insurers reject an insurance application, because they consider the risk of having to bear high costs to be too high. This makes sure that existing customers don’t end up having to bear higher costs.
Frequently asked questions
-
I have been rejected for supplementary insurance in the past. Will Sanitas accept my application with an individual premium supplement?
We will check your application when you submit the health check. However, it is not possible to make a general statement as to whether your application will be approved, nor can we say in advance whether you will receive an individual premium supplement or a restriction.
-
Which supplementary insurance plans can be taken out with an individual premium supplement?
All hospital insurance plans, the Vital, Medical Private, Easy and Capital plans and insurance plans in the Sanitas Corporate Private Care product line.

What is the difference between an individual premium supplement and a restriction?

Can I take out supplementary insurance without a health check, i.e. without answering the health questions?

Sanitas strives to offer applicants the choice between a restriction and a premium supplement, but there is no guarantee.
