Who is Vital suitable for?

The Vital supplementary outpatient insurance solution is perfect for anybody who wants to actively promote their physical and mental fitness – thanks to its wide range of preventive, medical and health-promoting measures.

Why Vital supplementary insurance makes sense

Vital supplementary outpatient allows you to insure outpatient benefits not covered or only partly covered under basic insurance, such as alternative medicine, a fitness centre membership and much more. Just as suits your lifestyle and your budget.

  • Supplement basic insurance – in line with your requirements

Choose the option that suits your health needs and your budget. Vital supplementary outpatient insurance offers three categories of insurance:

    • Basic
    • Smart
    • Premium

The higher the category of insurance, the more benefits you receive and the higher the share of costs covered. No matter which category you choose, you’ll receive excellent value for money.

  • Comprehensive package of benefits

The Vital supplementary outpatient insurance solution pays higher costs or makes more generous contributions compared to basic insurance. For example, for:

    • Health promotion, e.g. cost contributions to fitness centre memberships or courses
    • Glasses, contact lenses or laser eye surgery
    • Alternative medicine
    • Orthodontics
    • Check-ups
    • Rescue operations in Switzerland and emergencies abroad
    • Extra benefits, e.g. for state-of-the-art treatment methods like genetic testing or innovative digital therapies

Full cover even with a pre-existing condition

With the individual premium supplement, Sanitas is the first health insurer in Switzerland to offer many people with pre-existing health conditions or consequences of accidents the option to take out supplementary insurance with full cover.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is special about Vital Smart?

In this category of insurance, you can also choose the amount of costs Sanitas should cover for alternative medicine per calendar year: either CHF 2,500 or CHF 5,000. You can also decide whether Sanitas should contribute CHF 400 or CHF 600 towards health promotion per calendar year.

  • Can I take out Vital supplementary outpatient insurance without a health check?

When you wish to take out supplementary insurance, you are usually obliged by all health insurers to answer questions about your state of health. On the basis of this information, we decide whether and under what conditions we will accept your insurance application. However, there are exceptions: for example, when registering a child before birth.

  • What do I have to do to switch supplementary insurance?

Do not terminate your existing supplementary insurance until you have received confirmation from us that you have been accepted for the new insurance. Please also note the periods of notice. Supplementary insurance plans can normally be terminated to the end of September, but certain policies are valid for several years.

  • Which category of insurance is most suitable for families?

Vital Premium includes important benefits for children in particular, such as for orthodontics. For parents, all of the insurance categories represent a good choice – depending on your individual requirements. New parents, for example, benefit from antenatal and postnatal exercise classes, parent-child gymnastics or baby and child first aid courses.

  • Is it possible to switch category of insurance?

Yes, that’s generally possible. If you want to switch to a higher category of insurance, e.g. from Basic to Smart, a health check is required. A health check is not required when switching to a lower category.
