Health insurance and military service: suspend your insurance
Send us your marching orders, and we’ll suspend your current health insurance for the duration of your military service.
How do I suspend my insurance?
-
Suspending basic insurance
Submit your application in good time
If you do military service for more than 60 consecutive days, you can suspend your basic insurance for the duration of your conscription. You do not pay a premium during this time.
Important: Your request to suspend your insurance must reach us 8 weeks before your military service starts.
Insured through Suva
Military insurance is provided by Suva (Swiss Accident Insurance Organisation) on behalf of the Swiss federal government. It is operated as an independent social insurance sector and governed by independent laws.

Suspending supplementary insurance
Prevent overinsurance
Any supplementary insurance plans that cover the same benefits as military insurance can be suspended. These are usually the supplementary outpatient insurance plans (Vital, Jump, Classic, Family, Diversa Komfort or Natura Komfort) and hospital insurance for the general ward (Hospital Standard Liberty).
If you suspend your supplementary insurance, the premium will be reduced by 70%. You continue to pay 30% of the premium, but can reactivate the supplementary insurance after the break without a health check.
Give us a call, we’ll be happy to advise you.

Enjoy your time in the military
Fit for service
Recruit school isn’t a walk in the park. One big challenge is a long march wearing a rucksack weighing 10 kg. Be sure to wear in your military shoes beforehand. You’ll find it a lot easier if you’re physically fit when you start. Viktor Röthlin’s running coaching programme is a great way to prepare.
Snack pack by military post
The post office delivers parcels weighing up to 5 kg that are sent to military addresses free of charge. All you have to do is write “Feldpost” (military post) on the address label. Let your friends and family know your military address – and why not include a wish list for your snack pack.
