At its meeting yesterday, the Sanitas board of trustees elected Dr Luca Stäger as its new chairman. He succeeds Professor Felix Gutzwiller, who has helped shape Sanitas for 24 years during his time on the board of trustees and board of directors.
After nine years as chairman of the Sanitas board of trustees, Professor Felix Gutzwiller did not stand for re-election. At the same time, the board of trustees elected Dr Luca Stäger as chairman. He is somebody who knows Sanitas very well: he has been a member of the board of directors since 2015 and its vice-chairman since 2018. Following his election as chairman of the foundation, which is the sole owner of the Sanitas Group, Luca Stäger is stepping down from the Group’s board of directors.
With his in-depth knowledge of the Swiss healthcare system and his many years of management experience – 14 years as CEO of the Tertianum Group – Luca Stäger is predestined for the role as foundation chairman. His previous professional positions include CEO of Spital Lachen AG, director of Privatklinik Bethanien AG in Zurich and chairman of the board of directors of the Swiss Paraplegic Group in Nottwil.
Luca Stäger completed his studies in Economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) with a doctorate (Dr. oec.) and later continued his education by studying Integrated Service Management and taking an Advanced Management Programme at the HSG. He also holds a qualification as an EFQM assessor and is a graduate of the Executive Programme in Health Care Policy from the University of Lausanne in collaboration with Harvard Medical International.
Vice-chairman of the foundation and chairman of the board of directors, Ueli Dietiker, is looking forward to continuing to work together with Luca Stäger in the new line-up: “We would like to congratulate Luca Stäger on his election, wish him all the best in his new role and look forward to seeing what impact he will make as chairman of the board of trustees.”
At the same time, Ueli Dietiker expressed his thanks to Felix Gutzwiller for his services to Sanitas: “He has been a member of the board of trustees since 2000 and also served on the board of directors from 2008 to 2015. In 2015, he took over as chairman of the board of trustees and was committed to developing and expanding the foundation’s commitment to social causes. For almost a quarter of a century, Felix Gutzwiller has helped shape and mould Sanitas. We express our heartfelt gratitude to him.”
